"In four years, a student graduates from The Ohio State University. In four years, 63,120 families hear the words 'your child has cancer.' "
If you're here, it's safe to assume you've seen one of my many social media posts or emails about BuckeyeThon. But what is BuckeyeThon and why am I so passionate about it?
BuckeyeThon is a student-run philanthropy that raises funds for Nationwide Children's Hospital. Since our inception in 2001, we have raise close to $10 million to support genomics research, psychosocial services, ideation funding, research trials, and fellowships. We work to achieve our goal of eradicating pediatric cancer through programs - which enhance the student experience, promoting the value of philanthropy, establishing a spirirt of service, and cultivating relationships between students, faculty, staff, and community members.
I am so grateful to say that BuckeyeThon has given me a home at Ohio State. Before joining the organization, I felt lost. I had faced a lot of rejection my freshman year and didn't believe I was good enough for this school. However, when I applied to be a member of BuckeyeThon, all of that changed. Not only have I found something that I am passionate about, but I have also have met some of my best friends, have grown myself personally and professionally. BuckeyeThon has opened doors for me that I never could have imagined being possible. I owe my love of Ohio State mostly to this organization and for that I am so thankful.
As a general body member of the organization, I work year round to support the families and kids being treated at the hospital both emotionally and financially. As Director of Membership Development, I work to grow relationships among members while also helping them grow as leaders. While this is a large focus of mine in BuckeyeThon, my main focus is to fundraise! Last year over 5,000 team members raised $1,704,184.19 for our kids and thanks to the generousity of donors like you, I was able to surpass my personal goal by raising $4,000!
Going into my senior year, I am realizing the importance of giving your all and setting large goals, because you aren't failing if you are giving it your all. So please, consider supporting me in my last year of BuckeyeThon, as I aim to raise $5,000 for Nationwide Children's Hospital in the fight against pediatric cancer.
For The Kids! (with much love), Noel Rebecca
Fundraising Goal: $5,000.00
